The 5th St. Coffee House
is sponsoring the 2005 Lutheran Children and Family Service Summer Day
Camp. This year the theme for the camp is "Music from Around the World". The summer camp runs for 8 weeks from June through August. The ages of the children range from 7 to 12.
Camp staff and teachers organize activities each day.
Since the 5th Street Coffee House is sponsoring the camp, we are making connections with performers and will also host the end of the week shows at our coffee house venue at St. Paul's Church in NE Philadelphia.
The Coffee House and all
performers are generously donating their time and talents for
the camp kids. We hope to stimulate a life long
appreciation for live acoustic music in the next generation of
listeners and potential artists!
Our
generous performers include: Karen Gross (American
Folk/Pop Rock, Week 1)
The original music of Karen Gross blends rock, pop, and folk while highlighting Karen's expressive voice, eloquent lyrics, and lingering melodies. Karen's music has been played on XPN 88.5 radio in Philadelphia and she has performed as a professional singer-songwriter at
Philadelphia-area music establishments including the Tin Angel (Old City, Philadelphia), The Point (Bryn
Mawr, Pa.), World Cafe Live (Philadelphia, Pa.), Odette's (New Hope, Pa.) and Havana (New Hope, Pa.).
Karen also plays at schools, festivals, community and benefit events, and she was selected as a New Edge Artist for the 2002-2003 season at the Community
Education Center of Philadelphia.

David
Falcone (Irish Celtic, Week 3)
Within the plethora of talent in Philadelphia's folk based and singer-songwriter community few can capture and share the imagination hidden within the world of fingerstyle guitar like David
Falcone. Descriptions:" ... a heady stew of fingerpicking pyrotechnics," "Enticing original melodies," "hauntingly beautiful," and "a guitar virtuoso."
David Falcone is a fingerstyle acoustic guitarist/vocalist whose influences include the styles and techniques of artists such as Leo
Kottke, John Renbourn and Pierre Bensusan. His original compositions reflect a unique synthesis of Celtic, traditional, and classical sounds and forms. His vocal works are often backed with the intricate details blended from these sources of inspiration. His performance repertoire also includes instrumentals written by
Kottke, Renbourn, and Martin Simpson and songs by Bob Dylan, John
Prine, and others. Visit: http://www.lasalle.edu/~falcone

Bob
Hassler (Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar and Ukelele, Week 4)
Slack Key is the name for the beautiful finger-style guitar tradition unique to
Hawai'i. Slack key guitar probably began around 1830 (predating the steel guitar by 60 years). The slack key tradition is characterized by a wide variety of tunings and the feeling each artist brings to the music: interpretations of classic and traditional Hawaiian songs, and instrumental guitar.

Drew
Gibson (American Country Blues, Week 6)
Performing a legendary genre of music, Gibson is a songwriter
with a heart for the simple things - dusty streets, back porch
exits, letterboxes, and all things folk and blue. With
influences from Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John
Hurt and Greg Brown, spinning stories and tunes is truly this
working man's craft.
On out the door, 'long side the night
With that porch light gone, my collar don't feel so tight
I left you asleep with a letter that I had to write
Since I didn't do,
Runnin' from you just might
- from Drew's song "Running
From You"
